Temporary Access
Temporary Access Flooring for Every Ground Condition
Temporary access flooring creates safe, stable pedestrian and vehicle access routes across ground that would otherwise be unsuitable, protecting grass, soil and sensitive surfaces while keeping people and operations moving safely. The Box Group supplies temporary access matting and trackway across three duty ratings, from lightweight pedestrian panels for walkways and event footpaths through to heavy duty composite and aluminium systems capable of supporting the full range of construction plant and vehicles. Every system is modular, reusable and designed to be installed quickly without specialist tools or equipment.
- Light, medium and heavy duty options - matched to pedestrian, plant and vehicle traffic
- Protects grass, turf and soil - ground recovers undamaged after removal
- Anti-slip surfaces perform in wet and dry conditions year-round
- Rapid installation - most systems require no tools, fixings or specialist labour
- Suitable for all ground types - turf, soil, sand, gravel, concrete, snow and mud
- Fully reusable and redeployable - a long-term asset across multiple sites and seasons

Temporary Access Applications
Temporary access flooring is specified wherever a safe, stable access route is needed quickly across ground that cannot support unprotected traffic. Our systems are used across construction, events, utilities, emergency response and outdoor venues, by contractors, event organisers, facility managers and emergency services teams.
Construction Site Access
Description Create stable access routes for pedestrians, plant operators and vehicles across soft, muddy or unstable ground on construction sites. Temporary access matting and trackway protects the site surface, reduces plant bogging and keeps projects moving in all weather conditions. Systems can be relocated as the project progresses.
Outdoor Events & Festivals
Provide safe, accessible pedestrian walkways and vehicle access routes at outdoor events on grass and soft ground. From lightweight footpaths for guest areas through to heavy duty trackway for production vehicles, our systems protect the venue ground and create clearly defined access routes across the event site.
Utilities & Infrastructure Works
Stadiums, Venues & Sports Grounds
Protect playing surfaces and ground during non-sporting events, maintenance operations and large-scale vehicle movements at stadiums and sports venues. Temporary access systems distribute load across the turf to prevent compaction and surface damage, with full recovery after removal.
Temporary Access — Frequently Asked Questions
What is temporary access flooring?
Temporary access flooring is a modular, interlocking matting or panel system designed to create safe, stable pedestrian and vehicle access routes across ground that cannot support unprotected traffic. Systems distribute load across the panel surface to protect grass, soil and sensitive ground conditions beneath, and are removed without lasting damage after use. They are used across construction, events, utilities, emergency response and outdoor venue applications.
What is the difference between temporary access matting and trackway?
Temporary access matting typically refers to individual panels or mats used to create stable working platforms and pedestrian walkways, often for lighter duty applications. Trackway refers to interlocking panel systems engineered to create continuous road surfaces capable of supporting vehicle traffic including vans, trucks and plant machinery. The Box Group supplies both - contact our technical team if you're unsure which is appropriate for your load requirements
Which temporary access system is right for my project?
The right system depends on your traffic type, load requirements and ground conditions. For pedestrian-only access - event walkways, garden paths and light site access, lightweight systems such as Rola-Trac Lite, Stadia X Lite or Supa-Trac Lite are cost-effective and fast to install. For vehicle traffic including vans and plant, a medium or heavy duty system such as Supa-Trac or I-Trac is required. For the heaviest loads including HGVs and construction plant, I-Trac or the AmP Panel aluminium trackway should be specified. Contact our team for a recommendation.
Will temporary access flooring damage the ground underneath?
No. When correctly specified and used, temporary access flooring protects the ground beneath from damage and compaction. The modular panel systems spread load across the surface to minimise ground pressure. On removal, grass and soil recover without lasting marks, making our systems the preferred choice for use on sensitive turf, maintained grounds and protected surfaces.
Can temporary access flooring be used in wet or muddy conditions?
Yes. Temporary access flooring systems from The Floor Box are designed for all-weather use, including wet, muddy and waterlogged ground conditions. All systems feature anti-slip surfaces that maintain safe traction in wet conditions, and the interlocking panel design prevents panels from sinking or shifting on soft ground. This makes them particularly valuable on construction sites and event sites during wet weather.
How quickly can temporary access flooring be installed?
Most temporary access systems can be installed rapidly by small teams with no tools, fixings or specialist equipment. I-Trac composite trackway can be laid at 30–40m² per operative per hour. Lighter systems such as Portapath can be installed at even higher rates. Contact us with your site dimensions and timeline for a project-specific installation estimate.
Is temporary access flooring available to hire?
Yes. Most temporary access systems from The Box Group are available to hire for project or event-specific deployments, as well as to purchase outright for long-term or repeated use. Hire is often the most cost-effective option for short-duration projects, one-off events or where storage space is limited. Contact us with your project dates, area required and traffic type for a hire quotation.
Do you offer worldwide shipping on temporary access flooring?
Yes. The Box Group ships temporary access flooring systems worldwide. Standard shipping rates apply at checkout for UK Mainland orders. For international orders, please contact us for a tailored freight quotation based on your delivery location, quantity and required lead time.
Not sure which system is right for your project?
