Ground reinforcement grids help to protect high traffic areas, keep gravel in place and can provide you with a suitable foundation for things like garden sheds. They are an ideal solution for footpaths, temporary car parks, driveways and more, reducing ground damage and providing a strong flooring solution.

Laying ground reinforcement can help avoid cars from getting stuck on uneven ground, provide traction and create a durable base for gravel, stone chippings and more. They help to prevent erosion and wear while still allowing for adequate drainage.

So how can ground reinforcement grids help you and what do you need to know about them?

What do ground reinforcement grids do?

Ground reinforcement grids and mats help to reinforce soft ground or provide a more suitable solution for roadways and car parks.

They can be used as a temporary solution – such as events parking – to protect the ground and provide traction to stop vehicles from getting stuck or tearing up the ground. However, they are also an ideal permanent solution if you want to put down gravel or if you need an easy foundation that allows drainage.

Ground reinforcement grids can also protect your grass while also allowing it to continue growing. This is ideal for events – both large and small – and if you need to provide temporary parking on a grassy area. The grids will provide a strong and stable flooring option that can easily be removed to reveal grass that has been saved from damage.

What can you use ground reinforcement grids for?

There are a lot of different uses for ground reinforcement grids, making them a versatile option that can be used as a permanent fixture or a temporary one.

Temporary roads and car parks

Whether you’re organising a large event or need to create a new place for cars to park as a result of construction or something else, ground reinforcement grids are a great option. They provide a stable surface that ensures cars have traction and tyres don’t churn up the soft or uneven ground. As you don’t need to make any permanent changes to the ground where you are temporarily parking cars, you can use them without planning permission so you have plenty of flexibility.

Driveways

Driveways don’t need to be expensive to install and you don’t need to invest in pricey materials. Ground reinforcement grids allow you to create a strong and attractive driveway in no time while also ensuring your car has enough traction.

You can combine the grids with sand, soil or gravel to create a driveway that looks great, does the job and allows for easy drainage. This saves you the need for paving slabs or tarmac and also stops the gravel from shifting with use.

Path protection

Paths can easily become muddy, worn and uneven, which can pose hazards for pedestrians as well as potentially causing permanent damage to your ground. Using ground reinforcement grids to protect your path will stop the ground from getting churned up by lots of feet, protect areas from mud and ensure people don’t slip or trip in wet weather.

You can even use the ground reinforcement grids alongside turf to maintain a consistent look that protects the grass and ground underneath. This is ideal for gardens or when you don’t want to create a marked pathway.

Shed foundations

Whether you need to lay a foundation for a shed, greenhouse, hot tub or another outdoor building, using traditional concrete or slabs can be expensive. They can also be time-consuming and difficult to lay, as well as create a lot of mess.

Ground reinforcement grids are the perfect alternative to concrete shed foundations as they are quick and easy to lay, durable and ensure adequate drainage. You can simply lay a geotextile membrane to prevent weeds, put down the grids, fill with gravel or sand and then build your shed.

Trampoline bases

Finding the right base for a trampoline doesn’t have to be difficult. Ground reinforcement grids mean you can build a safe, secure and long-lasting base for a trampoline in a day. Rather than simply placing your trampoline on the bare ground, which can be uneven and become damaged over time, grids allow you to create a designated area for it that is safer and looks great.

How do you install ground reinforcement grids?

Ground reinforcement grids are incredibly easy to install as they can be laid over almost any surface, including earth, grass, sand and gravel. Each tile clips together, allowing you to easily expand your protected area as and when you need to. Even better, you don’t need any tools for installation, making it quick to lay and remove as needed.

  • Mark out the area you need to add grids to.
  • If you are laying them as a permanent solution, lay and pin a geotextile membrane to stop grass and weeds from growing through.
  • Lay the grids by clipping them together in place, which is as easy as pushing down or stepping on each tile when the clips are lined are.
  • Once your grids are laid, fill them with sand, stones, earth, turf or even seed with grass seed.

You can then carry on using the area for cars, pedestrians or anything else you need it for without damaging the ground underneath.
